President's Message 2013

Hello and Welcome Members and Visitors!

At this time of year we reflect on the year past, and look forward to 2013.  The Board of Directors of CATAP wish you all a wonderful holiday season.  May you enjoy time with family and friends and rest from your usual hectic pace!

During our Annual General Meeting held in Banff on September 26th, 2012 a resolution was passed to increase our membership fee from $50 to $100 a year. This increase will take place in 2013 and coincides with our decision to include the “Journal of Threat Assessment” as part of the benefits of your membership with CATAP. This journal is a brand new publication and will include the latest research and trends in the field of Threat Assessment. (ATAP has also decided to include the journal as part of the benefits provided to their members). Other benefits to your membership in CATAP include; reduced conference registration fees, reduced conference and fees at other affiliated conferences, such as ATAP, access to international threat assessment contacts and inclusion on a multi-level internationally recognized accreditation process.

It was also agreed at the AGM to annualize our renewal dates for membership to April 1st of every year. All memberships renewed or initiated in the first quarter of 2013 will be valid until March 31st 2014. All memberships opened in 2012 will be valid until March 31st 2013. As we transition to this standardized renewal process there will undoubtedly be a few challenges, please be patient and call us to discuss exceptions to the process.

Thanks to all who attended or supported our 2012 Conference.  The conference was a huge success with attendees from far and wide, representing a broad range of experience.  It is through learning and sharing that our collective knowledge and practice continues to improve.  Plus, it is just a great opportunity to meet new and interesting people who share a similar interest.

Our next conference is scheduled from Monday October 28-Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Banff Springs Hotel, Banff, Alberta.  There will also be a two-day training seminar opportunity for those who wish to attend prior to the conference on Saturday October 26 and Sunday October 27, 2013.  We adjusted the dates to avoid a conflict so that all of you with children or just caught by the spirit can still make your “Trick or Treating” obligations.

Your input is always appreciated and we welcome any of your suggestions for speakers and/or topics for the upcoming conference.  We want to hear from you with any recommendations or concerns that you have as we continually strive to meet the needs of our CATAP membership.  We appreciate your involvement!

Regards,

Keith Hammond, President CATAP
