Recent incidents of school and workplace violence, domestic violence and political violence in Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia, etc. highlight the need for professionals from policing, law enforcement, mental health and corporate/private security communities to be trained in Threat Assessment and Risk Management. These incidents also point towards a need for professionals from these communities to share information and knowledge as well as problem solve together to prevent violence.

CATAP was founded to facilitate training opportunities in Threat Assessment and Risk Management and to serve as a venue for members to exchange information and knowledge.

Reasons Why You Should Join CATAP

• NETWORKING - CATAP is comprised of threat assessment professionals from policing, law enforcement, mental health and private/corporate security communities throughout Canada. In addition, CATAP members receive automatic membership to our American cousin ATAP (Association of Threat Assessment Professionals).
  
  Through teleconferences, conferences, courses, meetings, as well as the CATAP web site and ATAP Listserv, members can meet and stay in contact with professionals in the field.
  
  

• EDUCATION - Courses and conferences such as the annual Threat Assessment and Risk Management course hosted by the Vancouver Police Department and Calgary Police Service as well as the annual ATAP Threat Management Conference provide an opportunity for CATAP members to further develop knowledge and skills in the area of threat assessment and management.
  
  CATAP is also working towards holding an annual Threat Assessment Conference and regular meetings/teleconferences.
  
  
• ACCESS TO INFORMATION - The Members' Section of the CATAP web site contains case studies, newsletters, articles, and a comprehensive membership directory that has a search feature. CATAP members can also access the Members' Section of the ATAP web site and listserv.
  
  
• TRAINING DISCOUNTS - Members receive discounts to training organized by CATAP and ATAP. Members also receive access to specialized training programs that require a security clearance and background check.
